The reason Hamas is making demands is because Israel always caves to their demands. Israel has rewarded Hamas in the past for hostage taking, which of course guarantees more hostage taking. In the past Israel would take some token military action against Gaza, like blowing up a few empty buildings, and then the international community would reward Gaza with money for "rebuilding" None of this is Steve Witkoff's fault. Right after the October 7 massacre, the Israelis sent representatives to Qatar to "Negotiate." Israel got lots of young soldiers killed because taking out a house full of terrorists from the air was too risky. Hamas might have their own children with them, and then the NY Times would get mad. Just send the IDF room to room. So what if three or four got killed, Israel could tell the BBC how hard they are trying not to kill civilians. It is up to Israel to conquer Gaza WWII style. No one is going to do it for them.

I've been saying since October 8 that Israel should just carpet bomb Gaza and completely eradicate "Palestine."

No one can negotiate with a bunch of people whose opening position is “you all have to die, preferably slowly and painfully.” Did the U.S. negotiate with the Japanese during WW2? No, we killed them in large numbers until they finally saw that they could not possibly win, and they finally gave up - and after being occupied by us for several years, they finally realized that we weren’t really their enemy, and that our ways weren’t so awful, and they have become an honored and critical part of the civilized world.

If Israel, with troops on the ground and being located immediately adjacent to Hamas, cannot negotiate with them, then by what logic does the US think that we can negotiate with Hamas? I would think that we would have long since learned the lesson that everyone in far away parts of the world knows that eventually we will be leaving. Oh, we can huff and puff, and we can do an enormous amount of physical damage and kill a lot of people, but all that our opposition needs to do is hang on by their fingernails for a while, and we will become distracted with something else, or the political winds will change here, and we will leave. The only ones who can possibly negotiate with any credibility are our allies who are located right where all the action is, and who cannot go away (because that means they cease to exist), so long as we back them to the hilt. That is what the United States should be doing, providing Israel with whatever arms it can pay for, and just telling the Israelis to do as they see fit. We then cover them diplomatically, which has immense benefits for the United States, as we look like a serious ally to everyone else - friends and enemies alike.

It is interesting to note that during the Cold War, the Soviet Union and its allies were not always on the winning side - but the Soviets were always there, diplomatically and with arms and training. Even if their allies lost, they resupplied them pretty quickly, and were always there in the UN with their veto to protect their allies. Everyone, friend and enemy alike, knew that the Soviet Union could be counted upon to back its allies, and that had quite a deterrent effect. It was 100% consistent in that regard. While I most certainly don’t think that we should adopt either the ideology or the exact methods of the Soviet Union, we most certainly should be adopting the consistency with which the Soviet Union conducted its foreign policy, and in this particular case it means backing Israel 100%.

The problem is there is nothing we can leverage against Hamas. They love that the non-militant civilians of Gaza are casualties. They literally swon over the West's photographs of destroyed neighbours. And finally, at least in theory, they don't object to dying for their cause.

The solution is the same as the problem. These evil bastards want to die as "martyrs" fighting Israel and the Great American Satan? Fine - in the long run, that will be cheaper and easier than permitting these soulless demons in human form to keep threatening Israel from a mile away.
