Why does no one decline the Rhodes Scholarship?
American universities are awash in competitive victimhood, Marxism and rewriting of history - so why does the Rhodes Scholarship endure?
During the Leftist Summer of Antifa BLM Wuhan Fakedemic Love 2020, violent Marxist brats across the country and in Europe toppled statues of white men who they with their arrogantly “perfect” hindsight of history deemed unacceptable.
It’s easy to tear down a statue, doubly so if the cops won’t stop you because city politicians are Left-leaning Useful Idiots. It is even easy to attempt to rename hundreds of schools in San Francisco while the children were barred from attending class, because apparently Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation mattered less than his (conventional at the time) views of some Native American treaty obligations.
You’ll notice none of that virtue signaling violence cost the perpetrators anything. All of the Left’s temper tantrums come at zero personal cost to those puerile society-destroyers. All of this nonsense costs taxpayers and business owners billions of dollars, but these little shits and their Marxist professors and George Soros don’t care.
Of course, long term, history shows that cities destroyed by their residents throwing tantrums become even more devoid of opportunity and more dangerous, as private businesses decline to stop losing money trying to provide civilization’s goods and services to animals who cannot seem to stop flash mob looting. But the hallmark of the Leftist “activist” is a complete ignorance of how a civilized world works, so they’ll just bitch more to their idiot Congressperson who will hold a press conference talking about “systemic oppression” without mentioning the violent mobs who pushed every rational business owner out.
Back to such propaganda factories run by mediocre Jew Haters like Harvard. All these little shits screaming for “intifada” and spouting Hamas Charter chants about rivers and seas - even when many of these idiots don’t even know what sea or river they are screaming about - claim to be motivated in their ire by outraged moral anger at “colonial” powers. That is fine, as it goes, but these same little Maoists are oddly silent about their supposed high moral dudgeon when it comes to things which benefit them directly. The annual Rhodes Scholars were announced recently, named after Cecil John Rhodes, one of the purest examples of actual white supremacist colonialism the world ever produced.
Not only did he create DeBeers, the massive diamond cartel, Cecil created a country - Rhodesia - which was later renamed to Zimbabwe after a thoroughly corrupt scumbag named Robert Mugabe “liberated it” and made everyone who could not flee poor and starving to death. Some of my happiest memories in Africa are from the time I spent in Salisbury or as it’s now known, Harare. To be fair, old Robert may have been a genuine revolutionary with his people’s interests at heart when he strove for April 1980 when Zimbabwe became an internationally recognized nation. By the mid-1990s when I was there, he was an appallingly corrupt dictator, ruling a shithole of a country in dire economic straits.
Rhodesia/Zimbabwe has at times been the breadbasket of Africa because of wonderful climate and soils and water conducive to abundant agriculture. In 2000 Mugabe took all the farms owned by whites to “redistribute” to native Africans. In practice, the country plunged into famine as farms were handed off to political cronies who knew nothing about farming, bank loans evaporated, and the once-rich fields lay fallow. Not Cecil’s fault, that, but some background is helpful.
Back to today. By the standards of his time, Cecil was a nation-building colonial genius. But since today’s little Maoist Struggle Cadres who - of course - are perfect people in and of themselves who never heard of Jesus’s words in John 8:7, all these little privileged brats can scream about is judging historical figures by the standards of today.
That means they should uniformly loathe a white man who made millions off the gold and diamonds dug from the earth by Africans, who helped create laws in South Africa which arguably were the precursors to the apartheid system in South Africa and once had his mercenary army in Rhodesia kill 5,000 Shona and Matabele in one afternoon, after which his lover referred to the massacre as a fun day in the field.
Good old Cecil in general was not a remote fan of anything but empire and white supremacy. In 1887 he told the House of Assembly in Cape Town: “The native is to be treated as a child and denied the franchise. We must adopt a system of despotism in our relations with the barbarians of South Africa.”
Cecil was the real deal white supremacist. He was not guilty of “microaggressions” in the workplace. He murdered thousands, enslaved millions and got crazy wild rich from his antics.
For those who are unaware of the Rhodes Scholarship, a primer:
The Rhodes Scholarships are the oldest and most celebrated international fellowship awards in the world. Each year 32 young students from the United States are selected as Rhodes Scholars, through a decentralized process representing the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories. Applicants from more than 320 American colleges and universities have been selected as Rhodes Scholars. In most years, even after a century of competition, a Rhodes Scholar is selected from an institution which has not formerly supplied a successful applicant.
Rhodes Scholars are chosen not only for their outstanding scholarly achievements, but for their character, commitment to others and to the common good, and for their potential for leadership in whatever domains their careers may lead. The Rhodes Trust, a British charity established to honor the will and bequest of Cecil J. Rhodes, provides full financial support for Rhodes Scholars to pursue a degree or degrees at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom in partnership with the Second Century Founder, John McCall MacBain and other generous benefactors. Upon Cecil Rhodes' death, the scholarships were created in 1902. The first Rhodes Scholars arrived at Oxford in 1903 and the first U.S. Rhodes Scholars entered Oxford in 1904.
Try as I might, I cannot find a single example of anyone turning down the Rhodes Scholarship because of a principled objection to going to study at Oxford fully paid for by the investment income which derives in a straight line from the blood, sweat, tears and enslavement of Africans. Not one of these so-called “principled anti-colonialists” at Harvard or anywhere else have made the real personal sacrifice of declining to live on actual blood money. They will happily protest to have his statues removed from public places, but again, that costs nothing personally.

American Rhodes Scholarships Winners 2024
On Saturday, November 11, 2023, the American Rhodes Scholar Class of 2024 was elected. These 32 outstanding students will commence their studies at Oxford in October 2024. They were selected from a pool of 862 applicants who had been nominated by their colleges and universities. They will now complete their applications to begin courses at Oxford next year, widely across the University's academic disciplines.
I am not going to name them. That is not the point. It’s public information and I am sure most of them are nice young men and women of strong work ethic who were not marching in Harvard Yard recently calling for the death of Jews and the destruction of Israel.
But some of them were calling for Jewish genocide and none of them have declined to study at Oxford.
Hypocrites.
