Through the Darkness Shines the Light
It happens to shine in this instance from a bunch of bluegrass monks in America's capital.
A friend of mine Paul mentioned in passing to me today his pal who is a Hillbilly Thomist. I have a lot of interesting friends, many of whom say very intriguing things. That, you’ll agree, is a splendid sentence, especially when delivered deadpan as if asking you to pass the salt.
Another, for example, just last week said, “I’ve been offered a puppy by the Polish royal family.” That, too, is a good sentence and those who utter such sentences are worth keeping around.
Back to the Hillbilly Thomists. They had me at Bourbon, Bluegrass and the Bible.
The brothers are a band of friars of the Order of Preachers. They do what Dominicans do: contemplate, study and preach. And play bluegrass.
I’ve always loved the writings of St. Thomas Aquinas. From my understanding of his life, faith and works, I do not doubt he would be stomping his foot along to these friars living in his footsteps.
800 years ain’t nothing in the life of Faith.
And bourbon. 800 years is a lot of angel’s share. Keep on prayin’ and playin’, brothers.
Very interesting. Thanks.
