#TheList is on #TheFence
I am a fan of due process, so I don't like the government drawing up LISTS. Those of us refusing to remain silent in the face of emergent (but not new) Jew Hatred are cognizant of rushed judgment.
Herewith the Case of Hanna Kaupp. Does she deserve to be hounded from her university for creating public statements kind of like the ones I have been writing?
The Jew Hate Database, with whose activities I am aligned in principle, has this to say about Ms. Kaupp: “Meet Hanna Kaupp, a Western University student and a Jew hater who initiated a campaign to get a Jewish student cancelled and expelled from Western University in London, Ontario, over his sarcastic social media comments. She unilaterally deemed his remarks as ‘Islamophobic’ and ‘racist,’ a clear overreach and violation of fairness.” She provided some materials in support of her accusations, which Jew Hate Database collected into a collage:
Here are some more of the public social media posts that Hanna found so offensive:
Hanna finds his comments about Israel having to annex the West Bank offensive and directed “hate speech” - a thing I don’t recognize - against Palestinians living in the West Bank. Fair enough. Hamas is calling for Israel to be eradicated, so Palestinians alone can live in the territory; I see no difference in the two sentiments. I myself have called for Gaza to be a parking lot if Hamas refuses to surrender.
She also appears to be at odds with Jew Hate Database in that the young man in question’s posts could be interpreted to be sarcastic or a bad attempt at humor. Hanna, being German and therefore genetically immune to humor, may have interpreted jokes as being literal commands or statements.
Not knowing either person involved, I must say I am on the fence. Does Hanna belong on #TheList? Or is this a rush to judgment against someone who thinks she has a legitimate and logical complaint against someone themselves acting badly? My fight with the Jew Hating scum does not mean that every Jew everywhere is always perfect - just ask my wife - so I leave room for people who have legitimate arguments in localized situations. I don’t have enough data to call unequivocally for censure of this German woman in Canada.
I have had the - pleasure? no, that’s not the word - strange experience over the last few days of trading emails with one of the Jew Haters I have called out on #TheList series. That person is unrepentant, and basically sends me middle finger and Palestinian flag emojis. So at least that person is consistent.
Penalizing those calling for Jewish genocide is an excellent and morally upright thing to do. All moral legal systems require some degree of proof before conviction or condemnation. Those of us highlighting appalling Jew Hatred are not even remotely able to achieve that legal standard and should always be open to appeal or counter argument. Also, while hardcore zealots will go to their graves with their hatred intact, many others may be open to alternative views and those who come to eschew calls for genocide shouldn’t be punished forever. That is true especially if their actions were limited to ripping down some posters because some Leftwing Professor had filled their heads with Marxist nonsense.
Hanna may be terrible and a threat, or she may just have a political opinion that may offend some Jews, but I don’t know enough to make that call. I’m going to save my focus for the scum standing outside college Jewish centers chanting “Death to the Jews.” Not a lot of room for shades of interpretation there.
