Photo of the Year contest awards caused some ruffles, deservedly so

Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism rewards a photographer who collaborated with the murderous Gazans on October 7th. He should be arrested, not celebrated.

A sickening image of Hamas terrorists parading a slain woman’s near-naked body through the streets of Gaza has been awarded a prestigious photo-of-the-year prize — sparking fierce outrage from those who slammed the win as “an outrageous desecration of Jewish life.”

The grim photo featuring the young woman’s body was among a collection of 20 images that helped the Associated Press secure first place in one of the Pictures of the Year International award categories earlier this month.

The awards, which are run by the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism, are self-described as being the world’s oldest photojournalism competition.

News of the AP’s win in the “Team Picture Story of the Year” category prompted widespread backlash on social media, with some slamming the accolade and the use of Louk’s image as an “outrageous desecration of Jewish life.”

I will not further desecrate her memory; her family has suffered enormously, and their pain will likely never ease over the evil savagery visited upon her by the Gazan terrorist scum who invaded a music festival on October 7th. I have cropped the photo to emphasize the pure evil bastards sitting with her body in this truck. If the IDF has not already killed them, I hope they get captured or killed soon.

There has been a lot of outrage about a photojournalist winning a prize over a picture which documents the infinite human evil of the Gazans who raped, murdered and mutilated this young innocent woman.

I get the outrage in this instance, but many journalist photos over the years would be upsetting to those in the picture or their families. The young girl running naked from napalm at My Lai during the Vietnam War springs to mind. So I understand why journalists who vote for the efficacy of reporting news would vote for a photo - not because they are delighted by what they are covering, but because news is news and if it bleeds, it leads.

Where I part ways on that abstract journalistic ideal is that in this instance, these “journalists” were like the United Nations workers, involved in a premeditated, planned assault. They could have taken action to alert Israeli authorities rather than enjoying a ride-along on a Jew Hate gang rape and murder festival.

Ali Mahmud, who took the picture, should be arrested for being a terrorist, not given journalism prizes.
