NERC is worried. When NERC is worried, you should worry.
Do you know where your neighborhood's replacement transformers will come from?
David Blackmon of
has a wonderful interview with Todd Snitchler, President and CEO of the Electric Power Supply Association (EPSA). David and Todd cover the landscape of what is happening with the US power grid this winter, including a discussion about the ability of the Texas grid to get through the sever cold snap that hit the state in mid-January. They also discuss the need for more dispatchable thermal capacity to enhance grid reliability, and why an expansion of nuclear capacity will be needed to achieve net-zero climate goals. You can contact Todd at the association's website, www.EPSA.org.
Demand is rising for electricity, whether it is the reshoring of advanced chip manufacturing, or the massive need for electricity to power AI tools. There are costs to that, which will be borne by end users. That would be you.
The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) issued a report in June 2023 about the reliability of the US grid.
Read the report, but the main takeaway is that while the wholesale grid is operating well, any sudden shocks which brings down the system pose real threats. Our supply chains - including transformers - are fragile and need to be made more robust to ensure rapid recovery from extreme weather - or terrorism - events.
Net zero is idiocy meant to subvert liberty. Carbon is not poison. Energy is the key to life as we expect it to be. It's all about logistics.
Did I miss anything?
On top of this, we KNOW that the Chinese agents have infiltrated our power grids, public water plants, etc.
